From the Desk of Carolyn Washburn Enquirer Editor

SEE THE NEW FORMATTELL US WHAT YOU THINKChat Replay COLUMN ARCHIVEFAQSTAY INFORMED Enquirer Media BLOGFacebookTwitter Publish to Share

People have given us a lot to talk about this past week. Publisher Margaret Buchanan had great response to her column last Sunday, in which she explained changes that are coming to our print edition this fall. She and I had a great time talking with folks who participated in our live chat Wednesday at Cincinnati.com. (In fact, click here to replay our chat.) Since we know that when one person has a question many others are wondering the same thing, I decided to share our readers' clear Top 5:

1. People said: I don't want a paper without sections.
The new print edition is not a tabloid. It will still have all of our current sections. We will add a Good News section on Sundays, full of newsy local stories and photos. The TV section will be new. We are taking it back to a format from previous years, one that people liked the best.

We will have the same comics, puzzles and crosswords in the same size they appear today. And comics will be in full color seven days a week.

2. People asked: If the paper is smaller, will you have less content?
We will not have less content. Each page is smaller, but we are adding pages so you will get as much news as today. People who looked at our prototypes told us it felt beefier. We will still have good in-depth stories. And because of the way pages are designed, people said those stories have more impact.

We have a lot of local content you can't get anywhere else. We have 150 journalists. We cover dozens of communities on both sides of the Ohio River; a range of topics including entrepreneurship, education, health care and new development; companies including Procter & Gamble and Kroger; plus a world-class arts community, the Reds and Bengals, high school sports, food, statehouses in Frankfort and Columbus... We watchdog and tell stories about these topics consistently, with expertise developed over many years of staying on top of them.

In fact, 75 percent of our content is local (we measure it periodically). The part that is not local is intentional. People are clear that they want national and international coverage in main news, Business and Sports sections.

We know investigative and watchdog journalism is the most important thing we do. We fight for open records so governments must be transparent about their decision making and how they are spending your money. We get results every week from our watchdog work and our storytelling. If you want us to dig into specific issues, shoot me an email at editor@enquirer.com.

3. People said: You say the smaller format will have greater impact.
How is that possible?

Each page contains fewer things so we can showcase them better. We are designing
ads in a modular format. And we are designing pages with bolder graphics and photos.
That makes pages simpler and the content bolder, so things stand out more.

We have tested this using ads. We showed readers the current and new print editions. People recall the ads about 20 percentage points higher in the new print edition than the current one. You will see less text on fronts of sections, but we will still show you three or four top headlines on the section front just like today. Full stories will be contained on a page or facing pages inside. That means the same amount of content but fewer stories "jump" from page to page. Hundreds of readers who tested the format told us they liked how stories are easier to read when they are contained that way.

4. People asked: Since you are printing the paper in Columbus,
will the paper be delivered later or will news deadlines be earlier?

Delivery times won't change; you will still get your print edition by 5:30 a.m. Monday through Saturday and 7 a.m. on Sunday. The Cincinnati Enquirer deadlines actually will be later several days a week. The Kentucky Enquirer deadlines have been later than Cincinnati's but will now be the same, with a midnight press start. We'll make changes in staff work flow at night to deal with that so it will rarely have any impact on content. The new presses print an hour faster, and we have reconfigured carriers' routes so they can deliver the papers more quickly.

5. People asked: If the page is smaller, will it be harder to read?
Not at all. The type size is the same. That, in combination with the new design makes the pages much cleaner. Readers who tested it told us it was very easy to read. (And I, with my bifocals, can attest to it.)

We want to give you the opportunity to see it for yourself.

Go to any branch of the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County, Boone County Public
Library, Campbell County Public Library and eastern Butler County. We'll be getting into more
libraries soon. You can find all of the places to see the new Enquirer on the Enquirer Media blog at Cincinnati.com/EnquirerMedia. Go to the front desk and ask to check out the new Enquirer.

Or, click here to See The New Format and preview an electronic copy of our current prototype.
Once you've checked it out, Tell US What You Think.

Partner With Me.

Good day,
I am indeed glad to be in contact with you even though this medium of communication (internet) has been grossly abused by some people making it difficult for other once with genuine struggle to correspond and exchange views without skepticism.
I am Nikolay Sintsov, personal assistant to Mikhail Khodorkovsky, once rated as the richest man in Russia and owner of YUKOS OIL (Russian largest oil company),chairman CEO: Menatep SBP Bank (a well reputable financial institution with its branches all over the world). SOURCE OF FUNDS: I have a profiling amount in an excess of US$40.5M, which I seek you to accommodate for me. You will be rewarded with 40% of the total sum for your partnership. Can you handle this? As his personal assistant, I was authorized to transfer money of an American oil merchant for his last oil deal with my boss Mikhail Khodorkovsky. The funds have since left the shores of America to a European private financial institution where the final crediting is to be carried out. While I was on the process, my boss got arrested for his involvement in politics by financing the leading and opposing political parties (the Union of Right Forces, led by Boris Nemtsov, and Yabloko, a liberal/social democratic party led by Gregor Yavlinsky), which posed as a threat to President Vladimir Putin's second Tenure as Russian president. Since then, I have placed on hold all transactions concerning this amount. You can catch more of the story on this website: http://www.yukos.com http://news.ft.com/cms/4bb9612a-d254-11d8-b661-00000e2511c8.html http://www.hoovers.com/yukos/--ID__53700--/free-co-factsheet.xhtml http://newsfromrussia.com/main/2003/11/13/51215.html YOUR ROLE: All I need from you is to stand as the beneficiary of the above mentioned sum and I will re-profile the funds with your data, which will enable the financial firm transfer the sum to you. I have decided to use this sum to relocate to the American continent and never to be connected to any of Mikhail Khodorkovsky conglomerates, presently I am in London, for a hide out, The transaction has to be concluded as soon and as I confirm your readiness to proceed with me, I will provide you with details. Thank you very much. Regards, Nikolay Sintsov.

From the Desk of Margaret Buchanan President and Publisher of Enquirer Media

SEE THE NEW FORMATTELL US WHAT YOU THINK FAQEnquirer Media BLOGFacebook TwitterPublish to Share

This past Sunday, Margaret Buchanan, President and Publisher of Enquirer Media, published a column in The Enquirer's print edition and on Cincinnati.com talking about historic changes coming to The Enquirer this fall. Our goal is to keep you informed of these changes, so following is a copy of her column, in case you missed it. You'll see we plan to run a series of columns over the next few months. Each time one publishes, we'll send you a personal copy to this email address. We look forward to your feedback.

In just a few months, you will be part of a historic change at The Enquirer. We're getting a new look, we'll feature new content, and we'll sport a new, easy-to-hold and easy-to-read size. We know the way you want your news is changing - you want news and information that fits your on-the-go lifestyle. Meeting your needs is at the core of the new Enquirer format.

Over the next few months, we'll publish a series of columns that will tell you more about these changes: what they are, why we're making them, and how they will affect you. Today, I'm excited to share with you a sneak peek of your new Enquirer. The most obvious change to the print edition of The Enquirer will be the new page size: 10 1/2 inches wide by 14 2/3 inches tall. The Enquirer will be one of the first papers in the country to change to this size, and people have told us they love it. The new print edition fits easily on the breakfast table along with readers' cereal bowls and coffee cups, and can be tucked in their briefcase or bag and carried with them if they don't finish reading. The pages will be organized with fewer jumps so you don't have to turn pages to continue reading the same story. Headlines will be bolder. The print edition will be more colorful with larger photos and graphics to help tell the stories. Most importantly, we'll continue to provide unique in-depth news stories and cover topics you won't find anywhere else.

Transforming The Enquirer has been quite a journey, and our readers have been along every step of the way. Since last October, we have talked to nearly 1,000 readers and advertisers about what they want from their Enquirer, in content, form and appearance. We created, revised and recreated until we had a newspaper people said they will love to read. We take seriously our responsibility as a news organization to preserve and protect freedom of the press, a core tenet of the United States Constitution.

It's our job to hold organizations and people in our community accountable through watchdog journalism, to make sure you have the information you need to make informed decisions for your families, and to help you understand how national and global issues affect you here at home. It's also our job to inspire you by telling you about people in our community who are making a difference every day, to tell you about innovators and entrepreneurs who are creating new things for the betterment of our community, and to shine light on the places in our community we all know and love.

We could not do this without the more than 150 Enquirer reporters, editors and photographers embedded in our community, pursuing watchdog journalism and investigative reporting, seeking out the news and telling the community's stories.

We believe the new format and design will meet our readers' and advertisers' needs well into the future. It also is more efficient to produce. And that will help us continue to fulfill our mission of providing trusted news and information and actively supporting the people and businesses of Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.

You are already seeing some of the content improvements in The Enquirer, and your response has been gratifying. And we're not stopping now. We're continuing to invest in refining The Enquirer and will share more details in the coming months.

In the meantime, you can See the New Format and preview an electronic copy of our current prototype. Additionally, Cincinnati Public Library branches and some other local libraries have copies if you'd like to see it in print. You can find all the places to see the new print edition on the Enquirer Media blog at Cincinnati.com/EnquirerMedia. We'll update the list as more locations are added.

In addition, Carolyn Washburn and I will be hosting a live chat this Wednesday, July 25, at noon to hear your feedback and answer questions about the new Enquirer print edition. Join us then at Cincinnati.com. You can also check out our Frequently Asked Questions or talk to us socially on Facebook and Twitter.

And, once you've seen the new print edition, let me know what you think. Complete a feedback form or e-mail me at publisher@enquirer.com.

Thank you for welcoming us into your life.

Sincerely,

Margaret Buchanan
President and Publisher

90% of online traffic in 2013 will be... (Part 2 of 2)

Yesterday, I gave you some eye-opening stats about online
traffic on 2013.

More specifically, that VIDEO is going to drive 90% of all traffic
online.

Huge.

There's a good chance you've already dabbled with online videos.

But, it's not as easy as creating an animated PowerPoint and
uploading it to YouTube.

Shooting the video is the easy part.

The real 'magic' is what you do after that...

That's why today I'm going to show you how to "borrow" some
intelligence from videos that are already dominating YouTube (and
often Google too).

Sidenote: This one email has ballooned into a mini-course, so you
might wanna get a pen and paper handy.

To create videos, you can use free screen capture tools like Jing or old
versions of Camtasia that you can find for free online.

So, let's now waste time going through those basics.

Let's dive right into the good stuff, shall we?

One quick tip about your video... you must, must, MUST
include a call to action at the end of your video.

Here's how you do it...

Leave 10-15 seconds of dead air time and get the viewer to
visit your website, give them a free gift, another link to click
for another free video, etc.

If you miss this part, you might as well not even bother creating
a video!

Next step, upload your vid to YouTube.

Takes 5 minutes.

Let's talk real quick about your title, description and tags.

All *very* important.

With your title... don't make it too long. Also, try and use
your target keyword within the beginning of your title.

Example (bad):

The top exercises for stretching and relaxing using yoga

Example (good):

Yoga exercises to help you burn fat

About your video description... If your vid is on YouTube it's
going to get scraped and re-published on lots of other
websites.

Don't worry, that's a *good* thing.

As your video is scraped, your description is often grabbed
as well.

===> Bonus!

That's why you need to sneak in your URL *twice* within your
description -- once at the beginning and again at the end.

This way, you'll have even more backlinks pointing to your
website from all those sites that published your video.

Cool, eh?

Your YouTube video needs some backlink love too... I'll get to
that in a bit.

Tags are also an important part to boost your video views.

What tags should you use... how many should you use?

Why re-invent the wheel?

Just borrow the tags from the top two YouTube videos in your
category/keyword.

Because you *know* those tags are working real well for
them, right?

Ok. So far we've got...

* Video (check)
* Include call to action (check)
* Upload to YouTube (check)
* A good title, description, tags (check x 3)
* Traffic/views (uhhhh... no)

Now that all the technical stuff is out of the way, it's time
to turn on the video traffic tap.

What do most people do?

A. Nothing. Wait for the traffic to just show up (never does)

B. Message other people's YouTube channel subscribers trying to
find new subscribers.

A & B are just bad ideas altogether.

The solution?

Your YouTube video needs two things to really rock...

1. Distribution & syndication
2. Backlinks

(... and here is where 99.9% of people completely DROP
the ball. Yes, including you).

Well, let me back up a step. If your video is just really, really
bad... your results won't be great, no matter what you do.

So, I'm assuming your vid is at least half-decent.

If you look at the top videos in any category on YouTube,
they all have one thing in common.

Yes, a lot of views.

But, many of those views do *not* happen on YouTube.com

What I mean is... many people view videos on websites
OUTSIDE of YouTube.

And that's where the magic of distribution & syndication
really kicks in.

PLUS, all those websites are also linking back to your
video on YouTube.com.

Think of it like this... your video on YouTube is the hub and
all the 'spokes' pointing back to it are dozens, hundreds or
THOUSANDS of other websites.

If your video is a balloon, think of backlinks as the air that
lifts your video up to the top.

When you've got thousands of other websites displaying your
video and linking back to your video on YouTube, amazing things
start to happen.

For starters... LOADS of high-quality, free traffic!

You might be thinking... isn't getting too many backlinks to my
video a bad thing? Won't I get penalized or slapped by Google?

AHA! I'm glad you asked...

There is actually no "slap" for YouTube videos.

Google won't slap their own child (YouTube).

I've tested this plenty too. ;-)

So, you do not need to be worry about getting too many links or
where those links are coming from.

How do you get dozens (or hundreds) of other sites to publish
your YouTube video and also give you a backlink?

You can search for and contact other websites and blogs in
your niche.

Or use sites like Squidoo and HubPages to create free pages
that link back to your YouTube video.

Or you can create a few websites and make a little network of sites
that link to your YouTube video page.

This is the exact formula that I use to get GREAT results with
my YouTube videos.

It works. Try it out and you'll see.

I hope you found this tutorial helpful.

The only thing I do differently today, is that I tap into this syndication
network
to get mass distribution (and backlinks) for my YouTube videos.

This gives me a big advantage when competing against other
videos all fighting for top spots (and views) on YouTube.

This isn't a third-party service that I use. I actually created it a few
years ago.

If you'd like to take a peak at it, to see what it's all about... I
just re-opened the doors after many months of being closed.

You can go here to get more details. This is not mandatory, but if
want an easier and faster way to get traffic with your online videos
(and article content too), this definitely works.

Talk to you soon & thank you for reading. :-)

Now go make some videos!

OverBlog - Des nouvelles fraîches !

Vous ne lisez pas correctement cet email ?
Overblog
Des nouvelles fraîches !

Chers OverBlogueurs,

Bon blogging,

90% of online traffic in 2013 will be... (Part 1 of 2)

I just read a great article that was a HUGE eye-opener. According
to Cisco... by next year (2013), video will drive 90% of consumer traffic
and 64% of mobile traffic.

Yes, 90% of online traffic will be video!

Add to that, here's a recent stat released from Comscore:

"In 2012, 83.8 percent of the U.S. Internet audience viewed online
video."

If you don't have a video traffic plan in place... well, this is
your wake up call.

This reminds me of one of my favorite quotes...

"I skate to where the puck is going to be, not where it has been."
   - Wayne Gretzky

These recent stats and studies *clearly* tell you where the "puck"
is going to be online... the question is:

===> What are you going to do about it?

Lately... everyone is whining about their sites getting
hammered after the big "G" Penguin and Panda updates.

But, is anybody complaining about their videos getting slapped,
sandboxed or de-indexed?

Nope.

Why?

Google will *never* penalize the top source for online videos
(YouTube) because they OWN IT!

Makes sense, right?

Now don't get me wrong....

I'm not saying that you should abandon everything else you
are doing online and only focus on video.

Sure, video works great. But, my recommendation is to take a
more balanced approach to getting more traffic.

Ask anyone who jumped on the bandwagon last year and *only*
focused on Facebook, Twitter and Google+ as their primary
"get traffic" strategy.

How's that working out for them?

My tests indicate.... not that well.

Tomorrow, I'm going to give you some action-ideas and
takeaways to get you on the fast-track to grabbing your
piece of that 90% of online traffic that I mentioned earlier.

Including this...

==> How to "swipe" this from other top videos to get you even
better results (totally legal)

==> The one thing 99% of people don't do -- but this will greatly
boost your video views

==> The most important 10-second spot in your video -- miss this
and you may as well not even bother!

[To be continued...]

In the meantime, if you want to read the article I referenced
above, here is the actual article.

Talk to you tomorrow,

Jason Potash & Jason Katzenback

Killer Traffic Tip Revealed (good info here)

Hey Twitteruser,

If you are struggling to figure out how to get
traffic with all this Google crap going on, and
feeling so freaking frustrated that you are just
about ready to give up, then I think you will like,
I mean LOVE this email.

There are no two ways about it, Google is a pain
in the ass, they are constantly changing things
all the time and just when it looks like we have
them figured out... WHAM... they present us with
some cute animal that devours everything.

A good friend of mine, however, a long time ago
told me a secret that is probably one of the most
important pieces of advice I have ever listened to
in regard to website traffic.

This friend is Jerry West, and if you are not
familiar with him, he is, in my opinion, one of
the top, if not "the" top, seo experts in the
world. What he told me back in 2006 was if you
are not getting at least 25% of your traffic from
outside of Google, you are risking everything.

Stop and think about that for one second and
ask yourself if you every really tried to get a
serious amount of traffic from anywhere but
Google.

If you focused on only link building, then
chances are, that is you.

You see I have a motto I live by when it comes to
promoting my web properties. That motto is...

"Focus on traffic NOT backlinks"

That might seem really simple but stop for a
moment and think about that too. Yes, you put a
link on a site to get traffic but in doing so are
you really focusing on how to get the most
traffic possible from that link or are you just
thinking about getting the back link.

The problem is every site out there is different.
Some, like the spammed to death bookmarking
scripts, really got zero human traffic and all they
are good for is having a backlink identified by
Google and getting credit for it.

But what about the others?

Over the past three months I have started using
a traffic source, that is absolutely amazing me.
The thing is, I am NOT just posting links to it, I
have learned the ins and outs of this source, and
I am doing whatever I can to squeeze as much
free traffic out of it as possible. The cool thing is
the traffic this site by itself is sending is
incredible, and once you understand how it
works it is so easy!

I have been doing this in a "incognito" way,
basically meaning I created a fake account to
test this in a market I have no influence. The
reason I wanted to do this is I wanted to test this
in a market that I do not already have a list in
and I wanted it to be totally something that I
already do not have an advantage in.

The traffic source I am talking about is
Pinterest.com, and if you have not heard about
it, well then you better listen up.

Pinterest.com is absolute huge, is growing like
crazy and the cool thing is it actually sends
traffic, and the search engines love it.

Now for any of you that might be thinking that
this is a flash in the pan... please give your head
a shake.

Let us suppose for one minute that this site does
go the way of twitter. Meaning that it gets really
huge but then people lose interest. Well, my
response to that is, did anyone make huge
amounts of money from Twitter traffic when it
was at its prime?

YES

People that site there and over think these
things, are the ones that get in too late. This is
the PRIME TIME to get in on this ship and take
advantage of it as much as possible.

There is one catch and that is that this site takes
a lot of work to make it effective... but don't
worry because I got you covered (keep reading).

You see, with Pinterest, you need to get
involved; you can't just add an image or video
and think everything is ok. The amazing thing,
however, is with this site, once you figure out
how to get involved the traffic you can get is
nothing short of phenomenal, and you can direct
that traffic ANYWHERE. It can be to an affiliate
site, an amazon product, your blog or anything
else you want.

Now for the really cool part.

I was asked to be part of a beta for a tool and
training system that focuses on using Pinterest,
and thankfully I was in on the very start. Not
only was I in on this but my business partner
Matt Clark also got to be on it and we are both
extremely happy we did.

What this tool does is makes using Pinterest an
absolute breeze and in a fraction of the time you
will have yourself an active authority-level
pinterest account that you will absolutely crush
it with.

I want to be totally upfront and tell you I am not
pulling any crap here, this is a true story and this
system I am about to share with you rocks! In
fact here is what Matt asked me to share...

"I love this tool! Pinterest is so valuable to any
type of business and is one of the truly untapped
goldmines online right now. Don't waste
valuable time trying to build your Pinterest cash
machine by hand. Use Mark's tool and start
getting results now!"

The tool I am referring to here is called
pinranker, you can check it out here...

http://clicks.aweber.com/y/ct/?l=OREax&m=JG9TYpQiJwcD0P&b=vxh4N5fB3cpDtHEfbfI8gA

...and between the tool and the training
provided, there is absolutely no excuse as to
why anyone cant become dominant with
pinterest and start raking in hoards of free
traffic.

In fact I believe in this tool so much I am going
to through in a cool bonus here that will help
you even more with traffic.

If you sign up with this link...

I will first of all give you a copy of my newly
updated TrafficLaunchPad PRO (Yes, the pro
version which has a powerful upgrade coming
out tomorrow that makes this tools even more
powerful)

PLUS... and this one is seriously powerful.

I will give you my entire "Mini Net" flow chart
that I used to absolutely crush it. I am just
updating this with a few more changes and will
get it to you by next week.

I have been working on this for a while and it
contains the exact system I give my outsourcers
for doing my link building. This is not an
in-depth training guide but rather a bunch of flow
charts that cover each level of the process.

I will also share a super powerful way to get a
full time person on this job for you for about $3
hr and they do awesome work!

PLUS (yes another one), Mark Dulisse, the owner
and creator has thrown in 3 more special
bonuses that are not available to the general
public.

These are three bonuses that will help you kill
it on Amazon with Pinterest. Check them out to
see for yourself at...

http://clicks.aweber.com/y/ct/?l=OREax&m=JG9TYpQiJwcD0P&b=vxh4N5fB3cpDtHEfbfI8gA

To take advantage of this, all you need to do is
send you receipt (for proof of purchase) to...

support@azmoneymachine.com

...and mention in the subject "PinRanker Bonus".

Then give us a few days to double check
everything and by next week, you will have your
Pinterest account rocking and be more then
ready for implementing my mini net which will
get you even more traffic then ever!

URGENT - You MUST use this link to claim this.

Go check out this incredible tool now and start
taking full advantage of this crazy traffic
source...
